JHAH unveils precision imaging technology for breast cancer screening and diagnosis

MRI-guided breast biopsy and contrast-enhanced mammography added to JHAH’s suite of cutting-edge technology for breast cancer care.

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) has expanded its breast cancer screening and diagnostic capabilities with the introduction of two advanced imaging technologies.

After successful trials were completed in January, the hospital now offers MRI-guided breast biopsy and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM).

MRI-guided breast biopsy helps clinicians to diagnose and treat breast cancer with greater accuracy and efficiency — even the most challenging cases. Among other things, the technique is crucial for finding and targeting cancerous tissues that are not visible on mammography or ultrasound.

CEM further enhances JHAH’s diagnostic capabilities by expanding the hospital’s toolkit for early cancer detection. CEM also helps clinicians to better identify cancerous tissues.

Dr. Maram Al Bayat, breast imaging consultant at JHAH, said MRI-guided breast biopsy helped clinicians to diagnose and treat breast cancer “with unparalleled precision,” while the introduction of CEM represented “a major advancement in breast imaging” that further enhanced diagnostic accuracy.

Dr. Louise Keating, breast imaging consultant, said: “These achievements exemplify our ongoing dedication to innovation, excellence, and improved patient outcomes.” Dr. Jean-Jacques de Gorter, Chief of Staff at JHAH, said the introduction of the new imaging services marked “another important step forward” for patient care as the hospital prepares to open an Oncology Center of Excellence, which will offer patients precision diagnosis, pioneering treatments, access to clinical trials, and full-spectrum survivorship support programs to become the regional benchmark in cancer care.

Dr. Abdullah Al Khalifah, radiology physician manager, said the introduction of the new services was a “major advancement in breast imaging at JHAH, laying the foundations for future breakthroughs in precision diagnosis.”

He continued: “This achievement is the result of the dedication and collaborative efforts of a multidisciplinary team including our breast imaging radiologists and technologists, MRI technologists, radiology nurses, clinical engineers, Epic team and their directors. Their commitment to excellence and patient care has truly set a new benchmark for innovation in our department.”
