Dr. Saeed Saleh Al-Yami is Chief Quality & Patient Safety Officer at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare, where he leads a system-wide transformation to make quality, safety, and patient experience the defining measures of care. Under his leadership, he shifted the function of Quality & Patient Safety from a reporting entity to a leading regulatory function. In addition, he implemented an effective multidisciplinary approach to Quality Management.

A board-certified ophthalmologist (FRCSC) trained at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Al-Yami began his career in 1984 in Saudi Aramco. Since then, he has served JHAH and other major institutions in a range of clinical and executive roles, spanning Chief Ophthalmologist, Director of Dental Services, Medical Director, and COO, among others.

A physician-leader with a track record of managing successful operational turnarounds throughout his career, Dr. Al-Yami’s accomplishments include a wide range of organizational and quality improvement activities. Some examples of these include: introducing corneal transplantation services; shifting the Ophthalmology operating model for in-patient general anesthesia to day surgery / local anesthesia (99%); introducing the concept of patient ownership in Primary Care; and leading response efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

His research and publications span patient safety, accreditation impact, EMS performance, electronic medical records, and ophthalmology - shaping best practices in both clinical and organizational excellence.

Dr. Al-Yami has won several honors and awards over his career, including: the Canadian Research Annual Award, Predictive Symptoms in Giant Cell Arteritis (1995), the Armstrong Institute for Patient Quality & Safety and Service Star Award (2024), and the Patient Initiative Award (2024).

He graduated from King Faisal University, earning a top-of-class MBBS, and has completed extensive executive education, including the IMD Program for Executive Development; Lean Six Sigma Black Belt; and many others.
