Dr. Russell Hales, M.D.
Chief of Centers of Excellence
Dr. Russell Hales is the inaugural Chief of the Centers of Excellence at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) and a recognized thought leader in healthcare delivery models over the last 15 years. A summa cum laude valedictorian of Brigham Young University, he earned his medical degree and specialty training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he now serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences.
At JHAH, Dr. Hales is launching the Centers of Excellence in Oncology and Cardiovascular Care, designed to serve both JHAH’s current patients and the broader Saudi community. His vision is to provide deep expertise for complex conditions, aligned with the same interdisciplinary, evidence-based care protocols used at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
A distinguished radiation oncologist, Dr. Hales previously founded and directed the Thoracic Oncology Multidisciplinary Program at Johns Hopkins, where he led a shift from department-based to disease-centered care. He also led the creation of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Cancer Center, bringing together specialists across medical oncology, thoracic surgery, pulmonology, pathology and radiology. His research has demonstrated that integrated care models not only improve lung cancer survival rates, but also reduce costs.
Dr. Hale’s contributions have earned international recognition, including the IASLC Clinical Innovation Award, and multiple teaching awards at Johns Hopkins.
